Measures

General measures

  • to recognise landscapes in law;
  • to establish and implement landscape protection, management and planning policies; and
  • to establish procedures for public participation.

Specific measures

  • awareness-raising campaigns for informing and educating the public, elected representatives and associations, about the value of present and future landscapes;
  • training and education provision of high quality specialist training in landscape appraisal and landscape operations and to promote multidisciplinary training in landscape matters (private and public sector);
  • identification, assessment and evaluation of landscapes based on characteristics together with the values and perceptions of the population concerned;
  • establishment of landscape quality objectives and in doing so consulting the public and all relevant interests; and
  • implementation of specific legal, administrative, fiscal or financial instruments to protect, manage and plan landscapes within agreed policy context.
